New Compliance Courses Designed to Prepare Health Professionals for Upcoming Effects of ARRA and HITECH on HIPAA

Review Of Systems-expanded (ROSe) is offering introductory and advanced level compliance courses to give medical transcription professionals guidance on the changes brought forth by ARRA and HITECH

Review Of Systems-expanded (ROSe), an online institution offering training programs to medical transcriptionists, is now offering compliance courses to professionals in the health information, medical transcription, healthcare compliance and hospital administration fields to aid them with the upcoming changes brought on by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and their impact on the Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Health professionals working directly or indirectly in the medical transcription field will encounter new fines and penalties, new requirements for and new security and privacy risks in their daily work activities. The directive of the courses will be to educate participants regarding these new regulations and how to mitigate potential risks.

ROSe has designed two courses to inform and to assist preparing participants about the upcoming changes. The first course is an introductory program consisting of four separate classes spanning legal/regulatory requirements, as well as documentation content and accreditation requirements. The second course is an advanced program devoted to specific compliance and potential risk avoidance topics directed to medical transcription business associates.

The courses will be offered online, first date for the introductory course begins September 30, 2009 and the first date for the advanced course begins November 3, 2009. Completion of the introductory course is a prerequisite for enrollment in the advanced course. To register for classes or to find out more information about the courses, click here.

Brenda J. Hurley, CMT, AHDI-F will be the instructor for the introductory and advanced level compliance courses. Brenda has been a medical transcriptionist, an educator, compliance officer, and has served in a variety of transcription and management roles for nearly 40 years.
